FC Lorient head coach Olivier Pantaloni has announced he will step down at the end of the season, citing a breakdown in trust with the club’s hierarchy.
The 59-year-old made the decision public on Wednesday, despite overseeing a strong campaign that has seen Lorient sit ninth in Ligue 1 with six matches remaining.
Pantaloni, who was appointed in 2024 following the club’s relegation, guided the Breton side to an immediate return to the top flight, securing promotion as second-tier champions.
However, the French coach said his relationship with the club’s management has remained strained since his arrival.

“There’s one main reason — the lack of trust from the management since I arrived,” Pantaloni told local newspaper Ouest-France.
“I still feel this distrust, and therefore I refuse to work under these conditions.”
His departure comes amid what has otherwise been considered a successful return season for Lorient, raising questions about internal dynamics within the club despite on-field progress.
Pantaloni’s departure is expected to raise questions over the club’s internal dynamics, especially at a time when Lorient appear to be stabilising in the top tier.
