Injured passengers recorded after Kaduna–Abuja train incident linked to technical fault
At least 26 passengers and crew members were injured on Monday following an incident involving the Kaduna–Abuja train, according to the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
The corporation, in an interim report signed by its Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, said the incident occurred after a loud bang was heard when a power car and trailing locomotive collided with a passenger coach.
The train had departed Rigasa in Kaduna at 7:15 a.m. and was approaching Asham station around 9:16 a.m. when the incident occurred between kilometre 50 and 51.
Preliminary findings indicate that the disruption may have been caused by a fault in one or more couplers. No derailment was recorded.
Following the incident, affected components—including a locomotive, power car, and passenger coach—were detached before the train resumed its journey.

The train later arrived at Kubwa in Abuja at 10:10 a.m. and completed its trip at Idu station at 10:39 a.m., approximately 38 minutes behind schedule.

A total of 481 persons were onboard, including passengers, crew members, security personnel, vendors, and support staff. Of these, 26 individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Rail services resumed later in the day, although the Abuja–Kaduna return service departed several hours behind schedule.
The corporation said investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident.
The latest disruption marks the second incident on the route within a year. In August 2025, a train derailment on the same corridor left several passengers injured and required large-scale evacuation.
