Florida lawmakers have approved legislation to rename Palm Beach International Airport after US President Donald Trump, marking the latest move in a broader effort to memorialise the president’s name on major American landmarks.
The Republican-controlled Florida legislature on Thursday passed a bill to redesignate the facility as the “President Donald J. Trump International Airport,” according to state records.
The measure now heads to Governor Ron DeSantis, who is widely expected to sign it into law despite having previously been a political rival of Trump.
The airport, located in Palm Beach, home to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, would require additional approval from the Federal Aviation Administration before the name change can formally take effect.

If finalised, the airport would join a growing list of institutions and public assets linked to Trump’s name.

The president, long known for branding real estate developments worldwide, has in recent years expanded that approach into the public sphere.
In December, the board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts ,a national cultural institution and memorial to former President John F. Kennedy, voted to rename itself the “Trump-Kennedy Center.”
However, other reported efforts to rename New York’s Penn Station and Washington’s Dulles International Airport after Trump did not advance, according to US media accounts.
Separately, the US Treasury Department has confirmed reports that draft designs have been prepared for a commemorative $1 coin bearing Trump’s image.
The proposal has drawn attention because federal law prohibits the depiction of a sitting or living president on US currency.
