Edo map: Relief as kidnapped student Tope Oriloye returns home after days in captivity in Edo State.
A secondary school student, Tope Oriloye, abducted on 8 February in Makeke community, Edo State, has been released after her family paid a ₦2 million ransom, community leaders have confirmed.
The National Coordinator of the Movement for the Advancement of Akoko Edo People, Bode Ekundayo, disclosed the development on Thursday, saying the student returned home unharmed.
Oriloye was kidnapped by gunmen alongside Samuel Ilesanmi at a community health centre in Akoko Edo Local Government Area. Ilesanmi had taken his wife and child to the facility when the attack occurred.
“We all give thanks to God for the safe arrival of Tope Oriloye after payment of ₦2 million. She is safe, healthy, and unharmed,” Ekundayo said.
He added that Ilesanmi, who is from Ososo, remains in captivity, urging security agencies to intensify rescue efforts.
The kidnappers had initially demanded ₦100 million for the release of both victims.
The Edo State Police Command confirmed Oriloye’s release. Police spokesperson Eno Ikoedem said:
“I can confirm to you that Tope Oriloye has been released.”
The case adds to growing concerns over kidnapping in Edo State, following several recent abductions across the state.
