Shehu Sani has welcomed the arrival of US troops in Nigeria, describing the collaboration as a critical step in the country’s fight against terrorism and efforts to secure lasting peace.
Speaking on Wednesday during a televised interview , Sani stressed the importance of international support in Nigeria’s security operations.
“We can’t continue to fold our arms while terrorists continue to slaughter and kidnap our people, and then close our doors against support from other countries,” he said.
“The fight is our fight, but support is very much needed as long as it is a partnership,” the senator added.
The comments follow confirmation on Monday by the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) that 100 US troops, along with specialised equipment, have arrived in Nigeria under a security cooperation agreement.
Defence spokesman Samaila Uba said the partnership is designed to provide Nigeria with “access to specialised technical capabilities aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s ability to deter terrorist threats and enhance the protection of vulnerable communities across the country.”
