The Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Salihu Sanusi Avidime, has called on staff to support reforms aimed at improving the institution’s performance.
The appeal came during a visit to the Utakpe campus, where Avidime engaged with staff to understand challenges and identify areas needing urgent attention.
He highlighted the School of Engineering as central to the polytechnic’s mission, emphasizing the importance of technical education and practical training.
“The visit was to familiarise myself with staff, understand their concerns, and find ways to enhance productivity and growth,” he said.

Avidime reiterated his commitment to staff welfare, fairness, and institutional stability, stressing that issues like truancy and misconduct would be addressed appropriately. He encouraged unity and dedication as key to achieving the institution’s goals.
He also acknowledged the support of Kogi State’s Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, and former governor Yahaya Bello, for their confidence in his leadership. Staff pledged loyalty and full cooperation to advance the polytechnic’s reform agenda.
Like many public polytechnics in Nigeria, the institution faces challenges including funding gaps, aging infrastructure, staff welfare concerns, and outdated curricula. Avidime expressed optimism that collective efforts would help overcome these hurdles.
