The Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has launched efforts to locate a TikTok user who publicly alleged she was raped in her apartment, as authorities move to provide support and intervention following widespread public concern.
In a statement posted Tuesday on its official social media platforms, the agency said it was actively trying to reach the survivor after her video triggered nationwide outrage and calls for justice.
“The Agency has taken note of the multiple tags and public concerns regarding a video currently circulating on social media,” the DSVA said.
“Our team is actively making efforts to reach the survivor to offer immediate support and appropriate intervention, and ascertain her location.”
The video, shared by the user identified as Mirabel (@mirab351) on TikTok, detailed an alleged assault that occurred on Sunday, February 15. Her account quickly went viral, prompting thousands of reactions online.
On X, the hashtag #StopRapingWomen gained traction, with users demanding stronger protection for women and swift action against perpetrators of sexual violence.
In subsequent posts, the survivor expressed emotional distress and disclosed that she had been hospitalised after a health emergency. She thanked a friend for helping her receive urgent medical care and told followers she would respond to messages when she felt better.
The DSVA said its priority is to ensure the survivor’s safety, wellbeing, and access to professional care, including medical, legal, and psychosocial support.
The Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency appealed to members of the public with useful information to come forward, urging anyone who can help locate the survivor to make contact through its verified platforms.
“If anyone has credible information that can help us reach her directly and safely, please contact the Agency by sending us a DM on any of our official social media channels,” the statement said.
The agency also reiterated the commitment of the Lagos State Government to safeguarding survivors and ensuring accountability.
“Sexual assault is a crime, and every survivor deserves protection, care, support and justice. Reports are treated with utmost confidentiality and urgency.”
To encourage reporting and access to support, the DSVA listed its response channels, including phone lines 0813-796-0048 and 0-8000-333-333, USSD code *6820# for MTN users, WhatsApp via 0812-893-7058, and its official reporting portal at ekoselfreport.ng.
