NECO AND NABTEB
Nigeria’s public examination system may see tighter coordination as the National Business and Technical Examinations Board [NABTEB] and the National Examinations Council [NECO] have set up a joint technical committee to harmonise their operations.
The decision followed a meeting between NABTEB Registrar, Dr Aminu Mohammed, and NECO Registrar, Prof Dantani Wushishi, at NECO headquarters in Minna.
In a statement released on Friday in Benin, NABTEB said the move aims to improve examination administration, reduce overlaps and strengthen cooperation between both bodies.

Mr Mohammed said stronger collaboration among examination agencies is vital for national development. He called for wider coordination with other bodies, including West African Examinations Council and the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies, while noting their different mandates.
Prof Wushishi described the meeting as a major step towards deeper institutional cooperation, adding that NECO welcomes renewed partnership with NABTEB.
The new committee has ten members—five from each organisation. It will develop shared frameworks, align strategies and submit recommendations to both chief executives.
