Justice Obiora Egwatu of the Federal High Court has withdrawn from presiding over the asset forfeiture suit involving former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, and two other defendants.
The judge announced his decision on Thursday shortly after lawyers representing the parties formally entered their appearances in court.
Addressing counsel and observers, Justice Egwatu said he would no longer handle the matter, citing personal considerations and the need to uphold judicial integrity.
“Ladies and gentlemen, for personal reasons, and for the better interest of justice, I will recuse myself from this case,” he stated.
Following the announcement, the judge directed that the case file be forwarded to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court for reassignment to another judge.
