Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia
Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has condemned the deadly attack on Abande community in Turan, Kwande Local Government Area.
Gunmen struck the border community on Tuesday, killing residents and a police officer, and burning property.
In a statement on Wednesday, the governor described the attack as “cowardly” and ordered security agencies to arrest those responsible.
He said the killings were an assault on peace in the state and assured residents that security operations had been intensified.

“I have directed security agencies to go after the perpetrators and restore safety,” Alia said.
Police confirmed the incident, saying five people, including a mobile police officer, were killed during the attack.
However, local sources gave higher figures, with a former councillor claiming up to 17 deaths, while the traditional ruler of Kwande said six residents and a policeman died.
Authorities said joint security teams have been deployed to prevent further violence.
Abande is near the Nigeria–Cameroon border, an area that has witnessed repeated attacks, raising concerns over rural security and protection of border communities.
