The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun preparations to ensure smooth participation in the upcoming February 21 Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with the commencement of Permanent Voter Card (PVC) distribution.
In a statement shared on its official X handle on Tuesday, INEC urged eligible voters across the FCT to promptly collect their PVCs, stressing that access to the cards is essential for participation in the polls.
According to the commission, PVCs will be available for collection at voters’ Registration Areas (wards) from January 22 to January 26, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily.
“Dear #FCT Resident, as we prepare for the February 21st Area Council Election, INEC is bringing your PVC closer to you. Don’t miss the chance to collect your PVC in the FCT,” the commission said.
“From Jan 22–26, 9 am –3 pm daily, visit your Registration Area (Ward) to collect your Permanent Voter Card (PVC). After the 26th, collection continues at INEC Area Council Offices.”
INEC explained that voters who are unable to collect their cards at their wards within the scheduled period would still have the opportunity to do so afterward at INEC Area Council offices across the FCT.
The electoral body also encouraged residents to monitor their PVC collection status using its online locator tool via https://cvr.inecinigeria.org/Locator.
The February 21 election, scheduled to commence at 8:30 a.m., will see 17 political parties contesting seats across the FCT’s 62 wards, making the PVC collection exercise a critical step toward broad voter engagement in the local polls.
