Enugu Governor Peter Mbah receives APC membership card, pledges alignment with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope development plan.
Enugu Governor Peter Mbah has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) after formally receiving his party membership card at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, marking one of the most significant political realignments in the South East in recent years.
The symbolic presentation by the APC National Working Committee (NWC) officially confirmed Mbah’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling party, a move the governor described as strategic, visionary, and in the best interest of Enugu State.
“This is not about personal ambition. It is about ensuring that Enugu’s development is fully aligned with the policies and programmes of the Federal Government under President Tinubu,” Mbah said in a statewide broadcast titled “Charting a New Course: Transition from PDP to APC.”
Governor Mbah, who was accompanied by top political figures including former Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, members of the State Executive Council, National Assembly, and local government chairmen, said the decision followed months of consultations across political, traditional, and religious circles.
He emphasized that the South East had shown unwavering loyalty to the PDP for decades but had often been “disregarded when it mattered most.”
“Our Igbo DNA does not change; our destiny does not change. What changes is that our vision now finds stronger reinforcement at the federal level,” Mbah declared.
He said his administration’s goal is to strengthen collaboration with the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, especially the Ward Development Programme, which targets 8.8 million Nigerians across 8,809 electoral wards.
Mbah described President Tinubu as “a partner in purpose and a leader with the courage to make tough choices for the country’s progress.”
He said joining the APC was “a conscious step toward a more compelling future for Enugu,” pledging to deliver on all ongoing projects including Smart Green Schools, road infrastructure, and healthcare facilities across the state.
“We are taking this step for the greater good of our people. Our projects, our dreams, and our commitment to Enugu’s prosperity remain unchanged,” the governor assured.
Confirming the development, the APC wrote on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle:
“The APC National Working Committee (NWC) has formally presented the party’s membership card to the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, officially marking his entry into the APC.”
Party leaders described Mbah’s defection as a bold step toward national unity and regional integration, signalling renewed engagement between the ruling party and South East leaders.
