President Tinubu moves to protect retirees, ordering free healthcare, pension increments, and reforms to secure dignity in retirement.
President Bola Tinubu, has directed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to issue a circular mandating health insurance across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
The directive, in line with the National Health Insurance Act of twenty twenty-two, requires all MDAs to enrol their staff in the National Health Insurance Authority plan.
The President said businesses must be engaged constructively to avoid undue constraints while implementing the Act.Going forward, all firms bidding for public contracts must present a valid NHIA Health Insurance Certificate.
The same certificate will also be required for issuing or renewing licenses, permits, and other official approvals.
The NHIA will create a digital platform for easy verification, while MDAs are to develop procedures for compliance monitoring.
The directive aims to expand health coverage, protect workers, reduce out-of-pocket costs, and strengthen accountability in public and private dealings.
Despite the Act being passed three years ago, health insurance coverage in Nigeria remains alarmingly low.
