
Professor Abdullahi Ribadu, has officially assumed office as the new Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), vowing to push for a review of the laws establishing the Commission to enhance its service delivery.
During the handover ceremony in Abuja, Professor Ribadu emphasized his commitment to improving productivity within the Commission by prioritizing staff training and welfare.
On funding, the new Executive Secretary pledged to strengthen partnerships with international organizations and donor agencies to optimize funding opportunities. He also outlined plans to digitize the Commission’s operations for enhanced transparency, accessibility, and efficiency.
“We will build strong partnerships with international organizations and donor agencies, create a centralized platform for managing and tracking external support, and ensure its effective utilization. Additionally, we will work towards digitalizing the Commission’s activities to promote transparency and ease of doing business,” he stated.
Professor Ribadu also stressed the importance of conducting a comprehensive needs assessment to guide resource allocation within the Nigerian university system.
Meanwhile, the outgoing Acting Executive Secretary, Mr. Chris Maiyaki, described Professor Ribadu’s appointment as timely, noting that the Nigerian University System requires innovative and transformative leadership to overcome its current challenges.
