Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has pledged a new era of professionalism, technological modernization, accountability, improved officer welfare, and strengthened community partnerships in the Nigeria Police Force.
Speaking on Wednesday, during the handover ceremony from the now-retired Inspector-General, Kayode Egbetokun, Disu described his tenure as the beginning of “serious work” to meet and surpass public expectations.
Key Pillars of Disu’s Agenda
Professionalism and Ethical Conduct: Officers must demonstrate integrity, compassion, discipline, and courage.
Technological Modernization: Enhancing digital crime-fighting tools, forensic capabilities, and intelligence-led policing.
Accountability and Discipline: Transparent leadership and strengthened oversight to rebuild public trust.
Officer Welfare: Commitment to better working conditions, promotions, and dignity for personnel.
Community Partnership: Reinforcing citizen-police collaboration to ensure effective security.
Disu paid tribute to his predecessor, Kayode Egbetokun, for laying a solid foundation and mentoring him.
He insisted that the responsibility before him is immense, stating, “This is not the end of the ceremony; this is the beginning of the work.”
Egbetokun, who retired after detailing his achievements, including improved intelligence systems, modernization of tactical assets, and expanded community policing, described the role of IGP as “a burden carried with humility,” emphasizing that the police institution is held in trust for the nation.
As Disu assumes leadership, the public and security stakeholders will be closely watching the implementation of his five-point agenda aimed at restoring confidence in Nigeria’s police force.
