The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Miller Dantawaye, has praised officers of the Nigerian Police Force for maintaining order during the FCT Area Council elections.
Mr Dantawaye monitored voting in several polling units across Abuja and described the process as peaceful and largely free of disruption.
He said officers were deployed early and remained on duty throughout the exercise to prevent violence, voter intimidation and ballot disruption.
Security presence was strengthened in remote and border communities. These included Igu Village in Bwari Area Council, Yangoji in Kwali, Giri in Gwagwalada, as well as polling units in Kuje and Abaji Area Councils.

The police chief said special attention was given to these areas to ensure that residents could vote without fear.
Observers reported calm scenes in most polling units visited. Voters were seen queuing in an orderly manner, while security personnel maintained distance but stayed alert.
No major security breaches were reported as of the close of voting.
The police say the peaceful conduct of the elections reflects improved coordination between security agencies and local authorities.
Mr Dantawaye commended officers for professionalism and urged them to maintain the same standard in future electoral duties.
The FCT Area Council elections are significant because they shape local governance in Abuja. Peaceful polls help build public trust in the democratic process and reduce tension in communities.
Authorities say monitoring will continue through the collation and announcement of results to prevent post-election unrest.
