Trump warns of steep tariffs against countries supplying Iran with weapons.
United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday issued a stark warning to countries considering supplying weapons to Iran, threatening a 50 percent tariff on all goods imported into the US from any nation that does so.
“A country supplying military weapons to Iran will be immediately tariffed on any and all goods sold to the United States of America, 50%, effective immediately. There will be no exclusions or exemptions,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
The announcement came hours after Trump signalled a temporary ceasefire with Tehran, which had agreed to reopen the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz. In a separate post, he said his administration was “talking Tariff and Sanctions relief with Iran,” hinting at potential negotiations following the truce.
The statements mark a sharp escalation in Trump’s stance toward countries engaging with Iran’s military, reflecting ongoing US concerns over regional security and the global oil supply.
