Dispute over late Governor A.A. Kure’s estate heads to court in Abuja
A legal dispute has emerged within the family of former Niger State Governor, Abdulkadir Kure, over the administration of his estate.
One of his sons, Umar Abdulkadir, has filed a case at the Upper Area Court in Abuja against his mother, Zainab Kure, alleging that she has unlawfully managed the late governor’s assets.
The former governor died on 8 January 2017 without leaving a will.
Claims by the Plaintiff
In court filings, Umar Abdulkadir alleges that his mother obtained a letter of administration from the Niger State High Court in 2019 without informing him or other beneficiaries.
He also claimed that the family home in Asokoro, Abuja, was “re-sealed” and taken over solely by the defendant.
In addition, the plaintiff alleges that two estate accounts held with First City Monument Bank (FCMB) are being controlled exclusively by Senator Kure, without any financial disclosure to the other heirs.
Position Before the Court
The plaintiff is asking the court to declare the current management of the estate unlawful.
He is also seeking an order for the redistribution of the property in line with Islamic inheritance principles, to be supervised by a qualified Islamic scholar agreed upon by all parties.
In addition, he is requesting an injunction to prevent the defendant from exercising ownership over the disputed property until the case is resolved.
