The 2026 edition of the Kids Soccer League (KSL) gathered momentum over the weekend as stakeholders expressed optimism following a successful player screening exercise held at Eden Gardens, Utako, in Abuja.
The exercise attracted five participating teams and was supervised by former National U-20 coach Bala Nikyu alongside Chairman of the FCT Coaches Association, Bartholomew David, whose presence added technical depth to the talent identification process.

Young players showcased their abilities during the session, raising anticipation ahead of the forthcoming league season.
Organisers noted that although some teams were unable to attend the screening, arrangements are being made to include them in subsequent sessions to ensure all registered teams are accommodated.
The event also received a boost from the General Manager of Gospel Promoters, Abraham, who donated three footballs to each participating team, a gesture widely applauded by players, coaches and organisers as a contribution to grassroots football development.

Founder of the initiative, Coach Femi Ajilore, expressed satisfaction with the league’s progress since its establishment five years ago, noting that the vision of building a sustainable platform for youth football development in the Federal Capital Territory is steadily taking shape.

According to him, the initiative continues to attract growing support from stakeholders, sponsors and media organisations, including the Nigerian Television Authority, which covered the screening exercise.
“The excitement among the kids and the commitment shown by technical officials and partners reflect the growing impact of grassroots football initiatives. We believe this edition will be bigger and better,” Ajilore said.
Organisers further reiterated their openness to partnerships with individuals and organisations interested in youth sports development, stressing that collaboration remains key to nurturing the next generation of football talents in Nigeria.
With preparations intensifying, attention now turns to the official kickoff of the Kids Soccer League 2026 season, as participating teams and young players look forward to what organisers describe as another impactful chapter for grassroots football development.
