The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has approved another extension for its student loan application portal, granting additional time for institutions that requested a deadline shift for the 2025/2026 academic session.
In a statement issued on Thursday, NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, said the extension applies only to institutions that formally applied for more time, allowing eligible students in those schools to complete their loan applications.
“The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has approved an extension of its Student Loan Application Portal for institutions that have formally requested additional time for the 2025/2026 academic session,” the statement said.

Commenting on the development, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to ensuring students can benefit from the programme.
“NELFUND remains committed to ensuring that eligible students across participating institutions have the opportunity to access the student loan programme,” Sawyerr said.
The Fund encouraged students in affected institutions to take advantage of the extended timeline by completing their applications through the official student loan portal.
NELFUND also reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the development of sustainable financing mechanisms aimed at removing financial barriers to higher education in Nigeria.
