Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner in five of the six chairmanship seats in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections.
Results released on Sunday show the APC won in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abaji, Bwari, Kwali and Kuje, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured victory in Gwagwalada.
In Gwagwalada, PDP candidate Mohammed Kasim polled 22,165 votes to defeat APC’s Yahaya Shehu, who scored 17,788 votes.The Returning Officer confirmed Mr Kasim met the legal requirements and was duly elected.
In Bwari, APC’s Joshua Ishaku won with 18,466 votes. In AMAC, Christopher Maikalangu was re-elected with 40,295 votes.

APC candidates also won in:
- Abaji – Umar Abdullahi Abubakar (15,536 votes)
- Kwali – Nuhu Daniel (17,032 votes)
- Kuje – Danjuma Shekwolo (17,269 votes)
The results strengthen the APC’s control at the grassroots level in the FCT, leaving the PDP with one council seat.
The elections are seen as a key test of political strength ahead of future national contests.
