Traditional rulers from the Atissa Kingdom in Obogoro, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, have called for fairness and justice in the trial of former Minister of Petroleum, Chief (Mrs) Diezani Alison-Madueke, highlighting what they describe as a decade-long legal ordeal without conviction.
Speaking on behalf of twelve other rulers at a press briefing in Yenagoa, HRH Ovie Omeleh, the paramount ruler of Yenaka, said the people of Atissa remain patient but are deeply concerned about the prolonged legal and public scrutiny faced by Alison-Madueke.
“We observe this situation with a growing sense of injustice. Justice that is delayed for over a decade, without a conclusive end, becomes an affront to the world’s most powerful nations,” Omeleh said.
He praised Alison-Madueke’s contributions to the nation, particularly her role in promoting youth development, traditional institutions, and the growth of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
“The people of the Atissa Kingdom stand by their daughter. We do not forget the leader who served her country at its highest levels, who respects the dignity of our royal house and the rights of a Nigerian citizen, who has facilitated the growth of our youth and strengthened our traditional institutions,” Omeleh said.
He also highlighted Alison-Madueke’s work in advancing the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development in the Niger Delta, noting its significant impact on local communities.
“Beyond her international accolades, we declare firmly that our daughter has been an owner, service provider, and skilled professional. She transformed our people from mere spectators of the oil wealth on our soil into active participants in infrastructure and human capital development across the region,” Omeleh said.
