Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has approved a new round of appointments and promotions across strategic government institutions, as part of efforts to deepen governance reforms and improve service delivery in the state.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa.
According to the statement, Abubakar Matawalle has been appointed Acting Director-General of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, while Yusuf Mukhtar was elevated to the rank of Permanent Secretary.
Rahama Alhaji was named Provost of the Kano State Anti-Corruption Institute, and veteran Kannywood actress Aina’u Ade was promoted from Special Assistant to Senior Special Assistant on Kannywood Affairs.

Dawakin-Tofa noted that Matawalle brings decades of public service experience to the role, having previously served as Executive Secretary of the Pilgrims Welfare Board and as Permanent Secretary, Establishment, before retiring from the Kano State Civil Service in 2014.
“Matawalle is a seasoned administrator who rose from the position of Assistant Secretary to Permanent Secretary and distinguished himself in the management of Hajj operations over the years,” the spokesperson said.
On Rahama Alhaji’s appointment, Dawakin-Tofa described her as a highly accomplished legal practitioner with a strong background in litigation, corporate law, regulatory compliance and academic administration.
“Her appointment reflects the governor’s commitment to strengthening anti-corruption institutions with professionals of proven integrity, competence, and administrative capacity,” he added.
The statement also attributed Aina’u Ade’s promotion to her outstanding performance in her previous role overseeing Kannywood affairs.
Governor Yusuf urged the new appointees and promotees to justify the confidence placed in them through hard work, transparency and loyalty to the Kano First Agenda, noting that all appointments and promotions take immediate effect.
The latest decisions come just days after the governor approved another set of appointments and promotions aimed at reinforcing governance across key sectors, including the appointment of Abdulkadir Kankarofi as Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs in the Office of the Executive Governor.
