Anthony Joshua speaks publicly after a December road crash that claimed the lives of two close friends
British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua has spoken publicly for the first time following the fatal road accident that claimed the lives of two of his close friends in December 2025.
In a video shared on his official Instagram page on Thursday, the former heavyweight champion expressed deep grief over the loss of Latif Ayodele, popularly known as Latz, and Gami Sina, describing them as his “brothers.”
Joshua said the crash occurred unexpectedly after the group had planned to end the year together.The accident happened on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, leaving Joshua injured and resulting in the deaths of both men, aged 36.
Reflecting on the tragedy, Joshua said the loss had profoundly affected him, the families of the deceased, and everyone close to them, noting that the two men were not only his friends but also business partners and key figures in his life.

He stated that he remains committed to supporting their families and ensuring their goals are fulfilled, even in their absence.
Joshua also expressed appreciation to first responders, local residents who offered prayers at the scene, and medical personnel who provided emergency care. He specifically acknowledged the medical team at Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, as well as officials and business leaders who assisted with logistics and recovery.
The boxer further thanked Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, President Bola Tinubu, and senior security officials for their personal involvement and follow-up after the incident.
In a caption accompanying the video, Joshua wrote: “A short message from the heart. My brother’s keeper for life.”
Meanwhile, the driver involved in the crash, Adeniyi Kayode (46), has appeared before a magistrate’s court in Sagamu, Ogun State. The case was adjourned until February 25 to allow the prosecution transmit the case file to the Ogun State Attorney-General’s Office for legal advice.
Joshua’s uncle has reportedly stated that the boxer would not want the driver jailed over the incident.
