The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has clarified concerns over unpaid promotion and salary arrears, following complaints by some personnel covering the period from 2022 to 2024.
In a statement on Thursday, the Corps said its leadership does not control the payment of salaries or promotion arrears. The NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, explained that payments are handled by the Presidential Committee on Arrears, chaired by the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation and the Accountant-General of the Federation.
Babawale said the current Commandant-General, Abubakar Audi, inherited five years of unpaid salary arrears when he assumed office in 2021. He added that arrears from 2015 to 2019 had since been cleared, benefiting more than 37,000 personnel nationwide.
The Corps dismissed reports claiming no arrears had been paid since 2022, describing them as misleading. It said arrears for 2023 and 2024 are yet to receive approval, noting that payment requires presidential clearance and budgetary release.
Babawale also said the 2025 promotion examination results were released only in December 2025, and processing for inclusion in the budget is ongoing. He urged personnel to remain calm, assuring them that discussions with relevant authorities are continuing.
