Anambra State Government has directed all schools in the state to fully resume academic activities every Monday, warning that any school that fails to comply will be shut down.
The directive was disclosed on Thursday in Awka by the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, who confirmed that an official circular has already been issued to school authorities.
According to the commissioner, the order—issued on the instruction of Governor Chukwuma Soludo—applies to all public, private, mission, and returned schools across the state.
She stated that any school found closed on Mondays will face immediate closure, stressing the government’s resolve to enforce full compliance.

The move follows the state government’s decision to end the long-standing Monday sit-at-home disruptions, which originated from protests by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) over the detention of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The government had earlier issued an Executive Order abolishing the closure of schools on Mondays, warning that teachers and non-teaching staff who fail to report for duty risk salary deductions or forfeiture.
