A female Point of Sale (POS) operator has been killed after being hit by a commercial coaster bus near the Total filling station in the Berger area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred on Monday morning while officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were allegedly chasing the commercial bus at high speed.
A commuter, identified as Johnson, said the victim had arrived early for work and was crossing the road after buying food when the bus struck her during the chase. He said neither the driver nor the FRSC officials stopped after the collision.
According to eyewitness accounts, the woman was thrown across the road and left severely injured. She was later confirmed dead when police officers from the Utako Division arrived at the scene. A bystander who recorded the incident reportedly handed the video to the police.

Other witnesses, including a newspaper vendor and mechanics working near the filling station, corroborated claims that the bus was being pursued by FRSC officials and that both vehicles continued driving after the crash.
A fellow POS operator in the area, Ola, alleged that FRSC officials frequently chase vehicles along the corridor, recalling a similar incident on Saturday that did not result in casualties due to low pedestrian presence.
Reacting to the incident, the FCT Sector Commander of the FRSC, Felix Theman, said the Corps had launched an investigation. He confirmed that patrol teams operating within the Central Area, Zone 7, and surrounding locations had been recalled to determine whether any FRSC vehicle was involved.
He noted that investigations were ongoing and that a press statement would be issued once facts were established, adding that it would be premature to conclude that an FRSC patrol vehicle was responsible.
Efforts to obtain comments from the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
