The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a credible, transparent, and internationally acceptable national census, insisting that due process will not be sacrificed for speed.
The assurance was given by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, on Tuesday, when the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr Aminu Yusuf, and his management team paid a courtesy visit to his office.
Idris emphasized that accurate population data is vital for national planning, saying, “Development would be impossible without reliable demographic figures.”

He added, “I want to reaffirm the commitment of the Federal Government led by President Bola Tinubu to delivering a credible, transparent, and internationally acceptable national census, anchored on effective public communication and inter-agency collaboration.”
The minister said his ministry and agencies, including the National Orientation Agency, Nigerian Television Authority, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Voice of Nigeria, and News Agency of Nigeria, are ready to drive nationwide advocacy once the President officially proclaims a census date. He also stressed that the presidential proclamation remains the legal basis for conducting the exercise.
Idris urged the NPC to leverage government-owned media platforms for continuous public enlightenment, ensuring Nigerians are well-informed and engaged in the process.
