Rivers State Police Command has arrested a lawyer and two others following shooting during a masquerade display in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, which left one person dead and eight others injured.
Police spokesperson, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the incident happened early Monday after a confrontation between masquerading youths, a lawyer identified as Akpudi Ikechukwu, and officials of the Nigeria Forest Guards.
According to the police, the clash escalated into a shooting along Sambo Street. One victim, identified simply as Obulo, was confirmed dead at a hospital in Omoku, while eight others are receiving treatment.
Iringe-Koko said the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

She added that security patrols involving the police and the military have been deployed in the area to prevent further violence, assuring that those found responsible will face the law.
