The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Jigawa State Command, has recorded major successes in its anti-drug operations in 2025, seizing illicit drugs weighing 1,944.389 kilograms and valued at about N2.8 billion, while securing the conviction of 136 drug peddlers.
The State Commander, Hassan Kabaju, disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists on the Command’s activities and performance for the year at its headquarters in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.
Kabaju said the seizures were part of intensified enforcement efforts amid a global campaign against drug trafficking and abuse. According to him, the confiscated drugs comprised 441.973kg of cannabis sativa, 1,373.886kg of psychotropic substances, and 128.520kg of other drugs of abuse.
“The seized drugs are worth approximately N2.8 billion, based on current market prices,” Kabaju said.

He explained that during the year under review, the Command arrested 577 suspects, including 558 males and 19 females, out of which 136 were successfully prosecuted and convicted.
“The command worked hard with great determination to limit the supply and abuse of hard drugs and other psychoactive substances,” he added.
Beyond enforcement, Kabaju said the agency also prioritised drug demand reduction and rehabilitation. He revealed that 552 drug users were counselled, while 59 male drug-dependent persons were referred for treatment and rehabilitation at the Command’s Drug Demand Reduction Unit facility.
Under the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaign, the Commander noted that the Jigawa NDLEA delivered 39,383 drug prevention lectures and advocacy talks across schools, including tertiary institutions in the state.
Despite the achievements, Kabaju identified inadequate vehicles, administrative tools and operational equipment as major challenges confronting the Command.
Nevertheless, he assured that the agency would not relent in its mandate.
“The NDLEA will continue to intensify its efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking in Jigawa State,” he said, stressing that officers would continue to reach all 27 local government areas of the state.
Kabaju commended officers and men of the Command for their dedication.
“We pray that Jigawa State Command will make this Agency proud.”
He also thanked members of the public for their support and called for sustained collaboration in tackling drug abuse and trafficking across the state.
