Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted conditional bail to former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abdulaziz Malami, alongside his wife and son, in an ongoing corruption case before the court.
Ruling on Wednesday, the judge set bail at ₦500 million for each of the three defendants, imposing stringent conditions aimed at ensuring their availability for trial. Each defendant is required to present two sureties in the same sum, with the sureties owning landed property in high-value areas of Abuja, specifically Asokoro, Maitama or Gwarinpa.

According to the ruling, the defendants must also submit all travel documents to the court. Justice Nwite directed that the title documents of the properties presented by the sureties be verified by the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court, while the sureties are to swear to affidavits of means.
Malami was further ordered to deposit his own travel documents with the court and was barred from leaving Nigeria without prior approval. Both the defendants and their sureties are also required to submit two recent passport photographs each to the court registry.
Pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions, the court ordered that Malami be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre. The judge adjourned the matter until February 17 for the commencement of trial.
