AFCON 2025 action intensifies as Africa’s top teams compete for places in the quarter-finals in Morocco.
The knockout phase of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 reaches a crucial point on Tuesday as the final two quarter-final tickets are decided.
Two Round of 16 fixtures involving some of Africa’s top footballing nations will determine the complete quarter-final line-up. Algeria face the Democratic Republic of Congo at 5:00 p.m., while defending champions Côte d’Ivoire take on Burkina Faso at 8:00 p.m. (WAT).
So far, six teams have already secured qualification, following a series of intense knockout encounters that have highlighted the tournament’s competitiveness.
Qualified Teams So Far
Senegal became the first team to advance on Saturday after extending their unbeaten run with a victory over Sudan. Mali followed later that day, edging Tunisia on penalties in a tightly contested clash.
On Sunday, host nation Morocco booked their place with a narrow 1–0 win over Tanzania in Rabat, while Cameroon completed the day’s qualifiers with a dramatic 2–1 victory against South Africa.
The Round of 16 continued on Monday with Egypt advancing after a 3–1 extra-time win over Benin, sealed by a late goal from Mohamed Salah. Nigeria also confirmed their quarter-final spot with a dominant 4–0 victory over Mozambique, as Victor Osimhen scored twice to propel the Super Eagles through.
