Governor Umo Eno signs the ₦1.58 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill in Uyo, urging total commitment to service delivery.
Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno has officially signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill, approving a total budget of ₦1,584,271,856,630 (approximately ₦1.58 trillion) for the state’s fiscal year. The budget comprises ₦416.6 billion for recurrent expenditure and ₦1.17 trillion for capital projects, underscoring the government’s focus on infrastructure and development.
The signing took place on Monday during an enlarged State Executive Council meeting at the Exco Chambers, Government House, Uyo. Governor Eno praised the strong collaboration between the Executive and the State House of Assembly, which he attributed to the numerous achievements recorded in the state in 2025.
“We all must rededicate ourselves to delivering our tasks promptly and decisively. This year is not a year for excuses; it is a year for action,” Eno said. “Let us break all barriers, go the extra mile to deliver, and when we deliver, we can celebrate and be recognised for our efforts.”
Collaboration and Transparency Highlighted
Speaker of the House of Assembly, Udeme Otong, commended Governor Eno’s transparent and collaborative governance style, noting that over 80% of the 2025 budget was successfully implemented. Otong assured continued support from the Assembly to ensure sustained development.
Briefing journalists, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Linus Nkan, confirmed that the original ₦1.39 trillion budget proposal, submitted in November 2025, underwent adjustments during legislative scrutiny, resulting in an increase of ₦194 billion, bringing the total budget to ₦1.58 trillion.

“The recurrent expenditure increased to ₦416.5 billion from the proposed ₦354 billion, while capital expenditure rose to ₦1.17 trillion from ₦1.035 trillion,” Nkan explained. “This budget is designed to stimulate the state’s economy and drive meaningful development.”
Recognition for Excellence
Governor Eno also presented an award of excellence to Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anieti Udofia, as Commissioner of the Year for his role in the successful Christmas Unplugged 3.0 event. Dr. Udofia received a ₦20 million cash prize, while members of the planning committee were awarded ₦100 million, along with a one-week leave for the Commissioner.
The 2026 budget, titled “The People’s Budget of Expansion and Growth,” represents a 16% decrease (₦260 billion) from the revised 2025 budget, reflecting strategic prioritisation of capital projects and efficiency in recurrent spending.
