Governor Ahmadu Fintiri grants pardon to nine inmates, including death row prisoner Sunday Jackson, during the festive season.
In a gesture marking the festive season, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has granted a pardon to Sunday Jackson, a death row inmate, along with eight other prisoners across the state.
A statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, confirms the decision. Jackson is currently held at Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre, while the others include Joseph Eugene in Yola, Maxwell Ibrahim in Kaduna, and five more serving at facilities in Numan and Jada.
Governor Fintiri said the pardon and sentence remissions were based on the inmates’ “significant improvement in behaviour and conduct,” in line with recommendations from the Adamawa State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.

“In the exercise of my constitutional prerogative of mercy, I have granted pardon to three individuals and directed the remission of the remaining sentences for five others who have demonstrated good conduct over the years,” the Governor said.
The move reflects ongoing efforts by the state government to recognize rehabilitation and give inmates a second chance, especially during festive periods, while promoting peace and social reintegration.
