The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, and Indian Defence Adviser to Nigeria, Colonel Manoj Singh, reaffirmed the strategic military partnership between Nigeria and India during a courtesy visit at Army Headquarters in Abuja on 9 December 2025.
According to a post by Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, on the Nigerian Army’s X handle, Lt. Gen. Shaibu emphasized the importance of sustaining a long-term collaboration with the Indian Armed Forces.

He described India’s support in military training, capacity building, and defence development as invaluable and highlighted the “urgent need to further enhance collaboration in counter-terrorism operations, intelligence sharing, equipment support, and professional military education.”

Colonel Singh praised the Nigerian Army for its continued efforts in addressing security challenges nationwide, and reaffirmed India’s readiness to expand defence cooperation, including providing more training opportunities for Nigerian personnel and boosting technical exchanges in areas of mutual interest.
The visit concluded with souvenir presentations, the signing of the visitors’ book, and a group photograph, symbolizing the enduring friendship and cooperation between Nigeria and India in defence and security.
