President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday administered the oath of office to the newly appointed Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Aminu Yusuf, two commissioners of the agency, and five Federal Permanent Secretaries.
The brief swearing-in ceremony was held at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja, shortly before the President chaired the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
Tinubu entered the chamber at 1:31 p.m., after which citations of the appointees were read. By 1:42 p.m., the five permanent secretaries — Abdulkarim Ibrahim, Dr. John Ezeamama, Dr. Abdul-Sule Garba, Dr. Isiaku Mohammed and Dr. Ukaire Chigbowu — took their oaths and signed the official register.

Dr. Yusuf, who was appointed NPC Chairman on October 9, was sworn in at 1:47 p.m. alongside two newly appointed commissioners of the commission, including Dr. Tonga Betara from Yobe State.
The National Population Commission is responsible for conducting census exercises, maintaining vital statistics and generating demographic data used for national planning and development.
During the FEC meeting that followed, the council observed a minute’s silence in honour of former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Joy Ogwu, who passed away on October 13, 2025, at the age of 79. Wednesday’s session marked the eighth FEC meeting of the year.
