Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending months of speculation about his political future as the party continues to grapple with deep-seated internal divisions.
Adeleke announced his departure in a statement posted on his Instagram page late Monday, confirming that he had already tendered his resignation letter to party officials at Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, on November 4, 2025.
He wrote:
“Due to the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (#OfficialPDPNig) at the national level, I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a member to the party leadership in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government on November 4, 2025.
I thank the party and its many members and supporters for the opportunities they have provided me, first as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and now as Governor of Osun State.”

Adeleke’s exit comes amid continuing factional disputes within the PDP’s national leadership, a crisis that has fractured the party and placed several state chapters under pressure ahead of key elections.
Party insiders in Osun had previously hinted that the governor might not seek the PDP’s ticket for the 2026 governorship election unless the national leadership resolved its long-running conflicts.
The Osun PDP leadership had expressed optimism that a reconciliation—particularly one recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)—could persuade Adeleke to remain within the fold. That hope now appears diminished with his formal withdrawal.
Adeleke’s resignation marks a major shift in Osun’s political landscape and raises new questions about his next political alignment ahead of 2026.
