Twenty-five schoolgirls abducted last week from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, have been safely rescued and are now on their way back to Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
Governor Nasir Idris confirmed the safe release to newsmen, stating that the students will be officially handed over from security agencies to the state government tomorrow and reunited with their families.

The governor revealed that the rescue was achieved through non-kinetic efforts, coordinated by the military and multiple security agencies, without paying any ransom.
He commended the swift actions, professionalism, and dedication of security and intelligence operatives involved in the operation.
Governor Idris also expressed gratitude to religious leaders and patriotic Nigerians for their prayers and support during the period of captivity.
The schoolgirls were abducted before dawn on Monday, November 17, 2025, when gunmen stormed the school in Maga. All the rescued students are now receiving medical attention and are reportedly in good health.
The successful operation underscores the importance of coordinated security efforts and intelligence-driven interventions in protecting vulnerable communities and schools across Northern Nigeria.
