The Katsina State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all public schools amid rising security threats and renewed banditry attacks in several communities

Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Yusuf Sulaiman Jibia, announced the shutdown on Friday during a press briefing in Katsina, stressing that the move is aimed at protecting students and teachers while security agencies roll out a new statewide safety strategy for learning environments.

Jibia acknowledged that the directive comes at a time when students are sitting for examinations, but said safeguarding lives remains the government’s most urgent responsibility.
He described the closure as a temporary, preventive measure that will stay in place pending a comprehensive security assessment of schools in high-risk locations.
The decision follows recent abductions of secondary school students in both Kebbi and Niger States—incidents that have heightened nationwide concern over school safety and prompted tighter vigilance across the North-West.
