President Bola Ahmed Tinubu today, begins a two-nation working visit to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, where he is expected to participate in back-to-back high-level global summits.
In a statement released Tuesday evening, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu’s first stop will be Johannesburg to attend the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit, after which he will move to Luanda for the AU–EU Summit.
“President Tinubu’s first stop is Johannesburg, where he will attend the 20th summit of the G20 Leaders. After the summit, he will proceed to Angola for the AU-EU summit,” Onanuga confirmed.
The G20 meeting, scheduled for November 22–23 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, is the first to be hosted on African soil. Leaders will convene under the theme “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability.” Discussions will focus on inclusive economic growth, development financing, debt relief, climate response and energy transition, food and agriculture systems, critical minerals, decent work, and artificial intelligence.

Tinubu is attending the summit at the invitation of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, the current G20 Chair.
According to the Presidency, the Nigerian leader will also hold a series of bilateral meetings at the summit’s margins aimed at advancing his “Renewed Hope Agenda” and deepening cooperation on peace, security, and development in the region.
The African Union, now officially a full member of the G20 alongside the European Union, is also expected to participate fully in Johannesburg.
After the G20, Tinubu will fly to Luanda for the AU–EU Summit from November 24–25, where African and European leaders, innovators, and civil society groups will engage on climate response, digital economy expansion, manufacturing, inclusive development, creative industries, infrastructure and agribusiness.
The President will be accompanied by senior cabinet members, including the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Finance and the Economy, Solid Minerals, Trade and Investment, and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency.
Onanuga added that President Tinubu will return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the two engagements. While this marks his third official visit to South Africa since taking office, it will be his first visit to Angola as President.
