Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo warns PDP of constitutional and political risks if Jonathan or Obi is fielded as its 2027 presidential candidate.
The Federal Government has called for the creation of indigenous aircraft leasing companies as part of efforts to improve aviation financing and support airline fleet upgrades in Nigeria.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, made the call on Monday, at the 2025 FAAN National Aviation Conference (FNAC), where he was represented by ministry officials.
He said local leasing firms would help airlines access capital more easily and reduce reliance on foreign lessors.
Keyamo said the government’s investment proposals for the sector were structured to attract private capital through transparent public-private partnership arrangements.
He described Nigeria as a large aviation market and an important regional hub.
“With Nigeria’s significantly improved legal standing for aviation financing, the environment is primed for indigenous leasing firms. This is a direct opportunity to deepen aviation financing and support airline fleet modernisation,” he said.
The minister noted that the country’s strengthened legal and regulatory framework now provides a more secure environment for investors, encouraging the entry of local players into the leasing market.
He also outlined wider investment opportunities, including airport infrastructure upgrades under the Renewed Hope agenda, the development of a regional Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) centre to reduce offshore maintenance costs, and the creation of cargo and logistics hubs to support agricultural and manufacturing exports.
