The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) days social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman, and comedian Freedom Atsepoyi, widely called Mr Jollof, will be sanctioned after their online rivalry escalated into a physical confrontation aboard an Asaba–Lagos flight on Monday.
The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA, in a post on X, condemned the incident as “unacceptable behaviour” and warned that such actions pose serious risks to passengers, crew, and the aircraft itself.
“There is no tolerance for unruly behaviour aboard an aircraft. Both individuals will face the full strength of the law,” the spokesperson wrote.
He criticised the conduct of the two entertainers, noting the influence they command online.
“It is even more shameful when one considers both of them partners in educating their millions of followers to avoid unruly behaviour,” he stated.
The official added that the airline is expected to file a formal report to the regulator, after which legal and administrative actions will follow.
“The actions of both men put the safety of all other passengers and the crew at risk. It also put the safety of the aircraft at risk,” he said.
The NCAA further reiterated its ongoing campaign against disruptive conduct on flights.
“The NCAA has exerted a lot of energy and resources in educating passengers about the dangers of unruly behaviour and its consequences. In this case, no matter what led to the fracas, there is no excuse that makes it acceptable.”
According to eyewitness accounts, the clash started from an existing social media feud and quickly escalated into a fight inside the cabin before passengers and crew stepped in to restore order.
Hours later, Verydarkman released a video on Facebook, claiming he had confronted Mr Jollof during the scuffle.
His post read: “I don chop Jollof father for inside the plane. He bite me, man wey de bite.”
The NCAA spokesperson said the authority is still awaiting detailed reports from the airline and crew, promising that a full statement will be issued once all facts are verified.
