UK Court jails Nigerian postgraduate student, Chiemka Okoronta, for 10 years after he was found guilty of raping a 17-year-old girl in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
A Nigerian postgraduate student, Chiemka Okoronta (29), has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by a UK court for raping a 17-year-old girl in March 2025.
The ruling by Bradford Crown Court underscores a brutal breach of trust following a late-night travel emergency.
The Deception Exposed
Prosecutors detailed how Okoronta exploited the victim’s vulnerable situation after her night bus service unexpectedly ended in Morley, leaving both stranded.
Okoronta offered a shared taxi back to Bradford when the victim’s phone battery died.
He deliberately diverted the ride to his flat, locking the teenager in a bathroom during the assault.
The brave survivor managed to flee and called police using a bystander’s phone.
Dealivering the judgement, Judge Sophie McKone condemned the student, labeling him a “dangerous sexual predator” who executed a planned attack.
Okoronta was found guilty on multiple counts.
Sentence Details
The Court concluded that Okoronta must serve 10 years behind bars, followed by an extended three-year license period.
He is also permanently listed on the sex offenders register and faces possible deportation after completing his sentence.
The victim describing the incident’s impact said: “I have flashbacks of what happened to me; I have nightmares.”
Detective Constable Sue Sutcliffe of West Yorkshire Police praised the victim’s immediate courage and urged other survivors of sexual offenses to come forward without delay.
