Kwara mourns Major General Abdullahi Adangba Mohammed, former NSA and presidential Chief of Staff, who passed away at 86.
The Kwara State Government has announced the passing of Major General Abdullahi Adangba Mohammed (rtd), a former National Security Adviser (NSA) to General Abdulsalami Abubakar and Chief of Staff to former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
He died in Abuja on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, after an age-related illness, at the age of 86.
In a condolence statement, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq described the late General as a “fine soldier, administrator, and community leader,” noting that his passing marks a painful end to a remarkable era in Nigeria’s political and military history.
“The death of General Adangba Mohammed is a profound loss not only to the Ilorin Emirate but to the entire nation. He was a distinguished officer and a patriot who served Nigeria with honour and dedication,” the governor said.
Throughout his illustrious career, General Adangba Mohammed held several key positions, including Military Governor of Benue-Plateau State, Director-General of the defunct National Security Organization (NSO), and National Security Adviser before serving as Chief of Staff to two Nigerian Presidents.
The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, also expressed deep sorrow, describing the late General as a “proud son of Ilorin Emirate and a true Nigerian patriot.” He praised Adangba’s contributions to community development, humanitarian causes, and the preservation of Ilorin’s heritage.
“He used his position, strength, and wealth to serve humanity and elevate the Ilorin Emirate,” the Emir said.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN), highlighted General Adangba’s pivotal role in the university’s history. He recalled that the institution began operations in a building owned by the late General, whose administrative and financial support was vital in its formative years.
“General Adangba was an illustrious Nigerian whose legacy in education, governance, and nation-building will be remembered for generations,” Prof. Egbewole stated.
Governor Abdulrazaq, the Emir of Ilorin, and the University community have extended their condolences to the deceased’s family, praying for Allah to grant him Aljannah Firdaus and give his loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
