Presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga criticises Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer for joining the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest in Abuja, describing the action as unethical.
The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has criticised Aloy Ejimakor, one of Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyers, for taking part in the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest organised by human rights activist Omoyele Sowore in Abuja.
In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, Onanuga expressed disappointment over Ejimakor’s decision to join what he described as a “shambolic protest.”
“I spotted Aloy Ejimakor among the small group of protesters mobilised in Abuja by Omoyele Sowore. I wonder what Mr. Ejimakor was thinking when he decided to join this shambolic protest,” Onanuga wrote.
The presidential aide noted that, as counsel representing Kanu in his ongoing treason trial, Ejimakor should understand that participating in public demonstrations regarding a matter still before the court violates the principle of sub judice.
He added, “Rather than focusing on preparing a strong defence, Mr. Ejimakor has resorted to extra-legal tactics, joining a career anarchist to influence the process.”
Onanuga further urged legal authorities to consider disciplinary action, describing Ejimakor’s conduct as unethical and unbecoming of a legal practitioner. “Ejimakor’s action questions his adherence to professional ethics. Legal authorities should consider appropriate sanctions for the unethical conduct of the bearded lawyer,” he stated.
The #FreeNnamdiKanu demonstration, organised by Sowore, reportedly began around 7 a.m. near the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, and was later disrupted by security operatives who fired tear gas to disperse protesters, including Sowore.
