Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has called on Nigerians to take part in a nationwide peaceful protest demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Sowore’s call comes despite a court order restricting demonstrations around major government areas in Abuja.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Sowore urged citizens to “keep moving” and make their voices heard.“Good morning, wherever you may be this morning, do not stop moving. Carry a sign, sing a song, make a statement!” he wrote.
The activist had earlier shared a message on Sunday night welcoming participants to the protest tagged #FreeNnamdiKanuNow.“We warmly welcome everyone who has travelled from far and wide to join the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest tomorrow. Your courage, sacrifice, and solidarity speak volumes. Together, we are writing history,” Sowore said.

According to him, protesters are expected to gather in front of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, at 7 a.m.He urged participants to “come ready, come peaceful, come determined,” adding on Facebook that the goal is to mobilize “one million people on the streets of Abuja” for the cause.
The planned protest comes amid growing public debate over Kanu’s prolonged detention and renewed calls for his release from both local and international human rights groups.
