The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has announced plans to hold a posthumous thanksgiving service in honour of Pa Uma Ukpai, one of its founding fathers, as part of activities marking the fellowship’s 40th anniversary celebration.
The national event, scheduled to begin on October 19, 2025, will be observed simultaneously across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
PFN National President, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, disclosed this at a news conference in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Wednesday. Represented by the National Secretary, Bishop David Bakare, he said the thanksgiving would celebrate Ukpai’s lifelong service to God and his enduring impact on the Christian faith in Nigeria.
According to him, the late evangelist had been slated to serve as the main preacher at the anniversary before his passing on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80.

“We decided that this 40th anniversary will now become a celebration of all Baba’s good works while he was here with us,” Bakare said. “On the 19th, all states and the FCT will hold thanksgiving and award services to celebrate icons who have been great blessings to the PFN — and Baba will be officially honoured.”
He added that the PFN leadership had visited Ukpai’s widow to commiserate and pray with the family, describing the late evangelist as a spiritual icon whose legacy will never be forgotten.
