Nigeria’s Christian community and millions of believers worldwide are mourning the passing of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, the revered evangelist and spiritual leader of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, who died on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80.
His death was announced in a statement on Monday by his family, who described his passing as a “glorious transition” from a life of dedicated service to eternal rest.
“He was a faithful soldier of the cross who devoted his life to spreading the gospel with passion and integrity,” the family said. “His teachings, prophetic insights, and mentorship have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire believers for years to come.”
A towering figure in Nigeria’s Pentecostal movement, Ukpai’s ministry spanned over six decades, marked by dynamic preaching, evangelistic crusades, and humanitarian outreach that touched lives across Nigeria, Africa, and beyond.

Often described as a spiritual general and father of faith, Dr. Ukpai championed unity in the body of Christ and inspired generations of pastors, evangelists, and believers with his unwavering message of hope and salvation.
Beyond the pulpit, he was a devoted husband, father, and mentor, known for his humility and compassion. His influence extended beyond the church, with educational and social initiatives that shaped communities and empowered youth.
While the family expressed deep sorrow over his passing, they emphasized gratitude for his life of impact and unwavering faith.
“We rejoice that he has finished his race and is now resting in eternal praise,” they said, quoting Philippians 1:21 — “To live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
The family noted that details of his funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
