Kwara State Government commissions two new PSA oxygen plants to provide reliable, locally produced medical oxygen and enhance healthcare delivery.
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has presented a total of ₦180 million in compensation to the families of forest guards, vigilantes, and community fighters who lost their lives while battling kidnappers in parts of the state.
The gesture, which the governor described as a moral duty and act of gratitude, underscores the administration’s resolve to honour those who died defending their communities from criminal attacks.
During the cheque presentation in Ilorin at the weekend, AbdulRazaq announced ₦80 million for the families of forest guards and vigilantes killed in Babanla, Oke Ode, and Eleyin communities of Ifelodun and Isin Local Government Areas, and another ₦100 million for families of community fighters ambushed by kidnappers in Edu and Patigi local councils in July.
“These are brave patriots who paid the supreme price in defence of their people,” the governor said. “We pray for the souls of the deceased. It was an unfortunate incident. They died in active service. The government cannot but sympathise with the families.”
He added that security forces had intensified operations across affected areas.
“The military has moved in with full force, and we are supporting their operations to chase the criminals out of Kwara,” AbdulRazaq assured.
The governor emphasized that the intervention was part of a broader security support plan, designed to assist personnel and local volunteers risking their lives to protect rural communities from rising insecurity.
“The government will not abandon those who laid down their lives for peace to reign,” he added. “Their courage must be remembered and their families cared for.”
Present at the event were top government officials including the Chairman of the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority, Alhaji Abdullateef Alakawa; Senior Special Assistant on Security, Alhaji Muyideen Aliyu; and local government chairmen from Ifelodun, Asa, and Ilorin West.
