FCT Minister Nyesom Wike announces rehabilitation of 40 more schools while launching new road projects in Abuja
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Friday pledged to rehabilitate at least 40 more schools across Abuja as part of ongoing efforts to improve education and infrastructure in the capital.
Wike made the announcement while flagging off the construction of the Transit Way (N2) and two new bridges connecting Wuse District to the Central Area.
According to him, the latest rehabilitation drive will add to the 70 schools already undergoing renovation, with nearly 45 of them completed and fully furnished.
“We are going to start again the total rehabilitation of not less than 40 schools after this road flag-off. That will add to the 70 schools already ongoing, with almost 45 completed and well-furnished. Education is also something we must give priority to,” Wike stated.
The minister stressed that the initiative is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to ensure that no sector is left behind in the FCT’s development. He highlighted education, healthcare, and road infrastructure as top priorities for his administration.

Wike also revealed that ongoing road projects are already attracting investors. He cited the example of a Dubai-based developer who has committed to replicate the popular City Walk project in Abuja.
He further disclosed that flag-off and commissioning activities will continue until October 20, while additional major infrastructure projects are slated for inauguration in November.
In her remarks, the Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Mahmoud, described the new road project as a milestone in boosting citywide connectivity.
She praised the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda for delivering “tangible results” to residents, while commending the National Assembly for providing steady budgetary support for FCT projects.
